Course Descriptions

What We Cover:

I.  AI & the Law.

Level 1 will cover multiple areas, namely to:

• teach you the basics of AI technology via a legal lens,
• separate the realities and hype surrounding AI, 
• examine how analytically AI and law overlap and diverge, 
• examine the differences between AI and legal ethics, 
• deconstruct how the legal ecosystem of clients, vendors, employees, and regulators, will place unique demands on the practice of law,  
• survey the growing and diverse regulatory responses to AI, and
• discuss, given all of the above, how the future of law may evolve. 

II.   AI & You, a Personal Exploration.  

In addition to the above, the most important element in this upcoming AI era is you, the human in the room.  Through LawTechLearn's proprietary, individual self-assessment tools, we will help you personally identify:

• the strengths and weaknesses of your particular job responsibilities in law in the context of AI's evolution;
• points of potential redundancy found in your role, and means for you to  create workarounds to minimize and manage such redundancy,
• points of creativity, strategy and action found in your role, that you can optimize against any redundancies, to the benefit of your organization, your clients, and yourself, and
• other individual issues that may play out when you as a legal professional are tested in this new AI era.

Please note that all personal assessments are optional, will not require you to identify yourself, will be for your eyes only, with any resulting, electronic data being anonymized.  

Our Unique Underlying Approach.  

In general, LawTechLearn emulates how legal professionals learn and then how we problem-solve.  

Under normal circumstances, first, legal practitioners discern the facts, research the law surrounding those facts, and assess the players involved.  At this stage we do solo work, but then we also come together with others to bounce ideas around and to determine next steps. 

LawTechLearn’s Level 1 does all of these things, but through the lens of AI. Level 1 combines fact-finding, live, interactive think-tanking with your cohort members, while providing you tools for your own individual self-assessment/reflection. 

You leave Level 1 with tools to determine: 

(a) what is AI, what functions it can perform, and how these functions impact the roles played and workflows used by legal practitioners;

(b) where your organization’s and your role's redundancy and creative/strategic analytical divide may be; and 

(c) how your practice area and you personally fit into the legal AI era;

so your organization, your clients, and you can have peace of mind,  and remain ethical and competitive.

While you can stop at Level 1, we highly recommend that you continue onto Level 2, which emulates the law school experience (no groaning, keep reading and hear me out - smile). 

Also, please note, that while not mandatory, we highly recommend that you take Level 1 before embarking upon Level 2.

Our Unique Underlying Approach.  

While difficult, law school trained you for the practice of law in a unique, time-tested manner, that prepared you for the intellectual and ethical rigor expected of all legal professionals.  In particular, law school granted you the luxury of surveying multiple areas of law to learn by juxtaposition, seeing how various areas of law complemented and opposed each other, which in turn, gave you legal discernment. That breadth of knowledge is irreplaceable and used by you daily, regardless of your adopted area of practice.

At LawTechLearn Level 2 we do the same, but this time through the lens of AI.*

What We Cover

Expanding on LawTechLearn’s Level 1 teachings, methodologies, and tools, Level 2 is a survey of the legal areas currently taking a heavy hit from AI, leaving you with resources, templates, and insights to layer on top of what you need to manage this era of AI. Chockfull of information, Level 2 is a healthy overview of how AI is impacting certain key practice areas that in turn will impact your legal discernment, regardless of your practice area.   

Areas of law surveyed include:

• Cybersecurity & Data Privacy
• Intellectual Property
• Constitutional Law
• Finance/Risk/Governance
• Ethics, and more

For each area, we will review how AI is  impacting the legal tenets of these areas, including, where applicable:

• Technological Mechanics
• Regulatory Developments
• Criminal/Civil Wrongdoing/Torts
• Impact on your clients' business choices and your practice and operations 

*Please note, that Level 2 is structured so that all legal professionals, regardless of their schooling or role in their organization, can actively participate and learn. No law school background will be required. Level 2 is recommended for all legal professionals to help with their individual evolution as law jockeys in the age of AI.
